LAWS TO KEEP CHILDREN SAFE WHILST TRAVELLING BY CAR

Not only do these laws keep children safe whilst travelling, drivers could also wind up with a £500 fine if they don't comply with them.



1. You must use age appropriate car seats for your child

Children under 12 years old or under 135 cm in height must use a child car seat that is appropriate for their weight and height.

Types of Car Seats:

* Rear-facing seats: For babies and toddlers up to 15 months old.

* Forward-facing seats: For children from 15 months to 4 years old.

* Booster seats or cushions: For children from 4 years old until they reach 135 cm or their 12th birthday, whichever comes first.

Failing to use the correct child restraint or seat belt can result in a fine of up to £500.



2. You must ensure your child's car seat conforms to EU standards and is age appropriate

Parents and guardians must ensure that the car seat is fitted correctly and conforms to EU standards (ECE R44 or R129, also known as i-Size). Drivers must also ensure that their child's car seat is age appropriate, this guidance will be found in the product description of the seat.
